Activity

Radish Scraper

Make a scraper instrument from a Daikon radish!

Questions to Consider:

  • Why is it so important to have an adult help with the tools to make this?
  • What can you learn about Daikon radishes?
  • Can you find a fun recipe to try that uses Daikon radish?
  • Can you think of any other vegetables that could be used to make a scraper?
  • Do you think it would change the sound if you used that vegetable instead? Why?

Fun at Home!

  • First, view the video of the entire musical performance on vegetables. Isn’t it amazing?
  • Next, watch the video on how to make your Daikon radish scraper.  Be extra sure to ONLY do this with an adult!
  • For a fun “green” additional activity, compost the fruit or vegetable afterwards.

Here is a video of a musical piece performed on vegetable instruments!

This is part of our series showing how you can make all kinds of instruments from fruits and vegetables!
